This past weekend my family and our friends traveled down to Tuscaloosa to watch the Vols take on Bama. I had never been to T-town for a game so I was super excited. We rented a big van, loaded up the coolers, and all piled in. Since we had a six hour drive ahead of us, we had to make the drive a little fun so we decided to play a drinking game on the way down. When we got there we found the neatest little BBQ restaurant down town with some live music. We didn't stay out too late since the game was at 2:30 on Saturday and we knew we wanted to be up to get an early start. We were all ready to go with a drink in hand by 8 the next morning. We hit the SEC nation that was set up on the Quad on campus and even managed to get a quick segment on tv representing the Vols. We were a bit nervous about where to tailgate that day since we didn't know anyone setting one up, but we made friends with some random Alabama people and spent the entire rest of the day tailgating with them and eating some of their yummy home made chili. I have to say the game was by far one of the most fun and exciting games I have ever been to. I really thought we were going to win when the Vols took the lead against Bama in the 4th quarter. Unfortunately we ended up losing 19-14.

This past weekend was so relaxing, I almost forgot how nice it was to not have anything planned. On Friday our pup was scheduled to get neutered so we knew we were going to stay in with him and give him all the cuddles and care. We ordered take out, rented some movies, and watched a lot of sports over the weekend. Bryan's momma stopped in to see us on her way back from working in South Carolina so we wanted to take her and do something fun. On Sunday I had my sister come watch Auggie after church while we went out to lunch at one of my favorite spots down town (Manna Bagel) then went to a local farm to pick pumpkins, go through the corn maze, and enjoy the fall weather. The farm we went to had it all, from picking pumpkins, a huge corn maze, a petting zoo, to all kinds of games, we could have spent days there! I had never been to an actual pumpkin patch until Sunday. I had been to farms where they have all the pumpkins laid out for you to choose your favorites but this one was a huge field of pumpkins where you find the best ones and pick them yourself. Bryan said it reminded him of his paw paws pumpkin patch he use to have years ago back in his home town growing up. We had to snap a pic to give to him since the name was "paw paw's pumpkin patch." We found a perfectly plump and round 10 pounder that was a must get. When you're still a kid at heart you take advantage of all the kiddie games available. We were playing horse shoe, lassoing fake bulls, and even raced in the kids petal cars. The best part about racing petal cars was the long line of kids waiting patiently in line to do this....and then there was us, about 4 feet taller than everyone else and about a 15+ year age difference. It was safe to say we all got a good laugh, oh and Bryan won. We were so excited to walk through the corn maze and answer the trivia questions along the way-This ended up being an epic fail. We got lost in the corn maze for a good hour or two before we finally decided to give up. We cheated our way out and went through the corn that wasn't part of the trail... Just when we thought we were close to being out of the maze we found a tower and realized we were in the dead center of the maze, it did make for a pretty picture though. I have to say my favorite part of the day was feeding the beautiful horses (this wasn't part of the activities on the list, we wondered off behind the farm and did this on our own with some corn we had pulled while lost in the maze). There was one horse I became obsessed with. I told Bryan I had to have her, unfortunately our backyard does not allow for this. Bryan's momma said one day she knows Bryan will end up buying me a pretty blonde horse like this one, even though he's actually scared to death of horses. I sure hope she's right on this one!
1.) Flannel weather. It's officially chilly enough outside that I can bring out the flannels tucked away in the back of my closet and start wearing them everyday! If you could see inside my closet you would find that almost half of my winter clothes consist of flannels of all colors (and I still want more). My favorite are the real deal kind of ones, you know the ones from LL Bean that are actually flannel material- Not those fake ones you get from boutique stores at the mall that just look flannel. They are super comfy & warm and you can dress them up or down. You can never go wrong with a good flannel. I currently have my eye on two new ones I found on LL Bean's website that I think I'll be purchasing! 2.) Tennessee beats Georgia 38-31. This past weekend we headed down to Knoxville to watch the Vols go after the Bulldogs in Neyland Stadium. The entire day was great, the weather turned out perfect and we were singing & dancing at the tailgate waiting for kickoff. The crowd in Neyland was a bit down at the beginning considering we were losing 24-3 but by the third quarter the crowd was going wild. It was a nail biter until the clock went zero in the fourth quarter and Tennessee had won the game. It was great seeing the crowd and team players come together and celebrate at the end of the game. I think this win will help boost morale as we head to Tuscaloosa next weekend... 3.) Southern Comfort. On Tuesday Bryan, Auggie, and I piled in the car and headed to my family's house to watch the Cubbies play (they won!) and eat dinner with the fam. This wasn't just any kind of dinner, it was all homemade and the best southern meal you could ask for, besides the brussel sprouts (ew). It was filled with some of my personal favorites- fried chicken, baked mac & cheese, and home style mashed potatoes YUMMM. My uncle who is an ahhhmazing cook was over doing all the cookin' and I told him I would help him out in the kitchen. I kinda regretted that decision once it took me a sold hour to peel all the potatoes and apples, but it was worth it. He also taught me how to make my first apple pie.. from SCRATCH. I've really come to love cooking and since I mastered the apple pie, baking might be next. The pie definitely didn't look to pretty but I promise it sure tasted fabulous. I think sometimes I take for granted that I live within 10-15 minutes of most of my family. I always enjoy being around all the family while cooking up a big meal- I secretly love how chaotic it gets. It always makes for a fun time! Warning: if food pics gross you out don't look at the pictures below..I tried to snap some shots while we were cooking and the yummyness before we dove in.
1.) Sun Rises. This week God has created some beautiful sun rises here in East Tennessee just to remind us of his beauty and glory! Every day this week I've taken our pup Auggie for a morning walk and couldn't help but to stop and take in the beautiful sky. As most of you know I've always been a lover of a beautiful sun set, but there's something about being up early enough to see the sun rise that makes you happy to be alive. 2.) Dinners with my cousin and her cute little fam. We try to cook for each others family and rotate every couple of weeks, last night it was my turn to cook (recipe for last nights dinner will be posted soon). I love having them over and watching Beckett play with Auggie. Last night Beckett was cracking us up with his sweet dance moves to Mickey Mouse Club House. He was also attempting to play fetch with Auggie who is almost exactly his size. It's pretty crazy how dogs know to be more careful around little kids. Auggie has always been one to get overly excited when people come into our home, but with Beckett he would just go lay down beside him or sit right next to him. It was adorable. 3.) The Chicago Cubs winning the wild card game 4-0 against the Pirates. Am I a baseball fan? No. Have I watched one baseball game this season besides the game last night? No. But my Mimi was a crazyyyy Cubs fan, so I had to watch the game for her. For those of you that don't know, I was super close to my precious Mimi who past away last August. I spent the majority of my childhood and almost all weekends sleeping over at my Mimi's house. There was never a time she wasn't rooting for the Cubs and yelling at the tv when they made a great hit, or lost, which often happened. Her and my dad also took me to Cubs games at Wrigley Field when I was little. To say the Cubs were my Mimi's favorite team was an understatement. I have to admit I cried when the Cubs made a home run hit last night. Bryan told me she may not be here to watch the game but she has the best view of the game she'll ever have up in heaven. I could almost hear her yelling "Goooo Cubbies!!!" last night. As much as I miss her, I have to remember, every day that passes is one day closer to seeing her again.
