I've decided to dedicate my favorites this week to my sweet pup who turned One on Sunday. As I began typing my three favorite things from this week I realized Auggie's birthday segment was ten times longer than the others. So why not just talk about him this week? After all, it is, well was, his birthday. Auggie turned one on Sunday! Our first and only pup Bryan and I have ever had together turned one this past Sunday. Since it was his first birthday I told Bryan we had to celebrate accordingly. What better way to celebrate a pup's birthday than by taking him for a long walk/run by the lake? ! Oh and giving him lots of treats and a big new toy filled with a bunch of squeakers! I figured by the time he was one (or 7 according to dog years) he just might be out of his puppy/terror stage. I was wrong. He's biting and chewing everything, he never wants to sleep (unless we are in the car), and he constantly wants to play/run and be outside. Anyhow, all the countless things that have been ruined from his chewing abilities, the hours of sleep we have lost, and going outside in the freezing cold/rain are well worth it. 1.)The amount of excitement he spreads as soon as you walk in the door can put a smile on your face even when you're having a bad day. If you walk outside to check the mail for 30 seconds, he will act like you have been gone for years and cuddle and lick your face non stop until you give him your undivided attention. I found myself looking forward to walking in the door after a long day just to see how excited he gets when he hears me coming up the steps and I can see his paws and tail wagging underneath the door. After the love he gives us when we walk in the door now, I couldn't imagine coming home to an empty house. 2.) Auggie is the best cuddle buddy around when he gets super sleepy. As soon as we get in bed at night he demands to be let up on the bed with us. He will crawl directly on top of your pillow if you get up for the slightest second and when we go to lay down he acts like we're taking his spot on the bed. I often wake up in the middle of the night breathing in his fur because he will plop right beside my face to get extra snug against me...or Bryan. He also loves a long car ride, he will pass out cold within 5 minutes of the drive and sleep on our lap until the rest of the way home. 3.) He loves to act like a hound dog and howl at the top of his lungs while he plays with his squeaky toys. When we first discovered him doing this (at 8 weeks old) we were both a little stunned/worried at what was happening. He is a full shih tzu but I promise he can out howl any hound dog out there. We have now realized to love him for his weird hound like behavior. All of our friends and family get the biggest kick out of him when he goes on his howling rant. It is a normal behavior now and happens almost every time he plays with a squeaky toy. We've learned to love him a little bit extra for his weird like ways. I can promise there is nothing like the love a dog will share with their owners. I never, ever imagined I could love a little pup so much until him. I am a big animal lover, but I would recommend a dog to any loving/caring person out there. Dogs make life better. The first day we received Auggie he was almost 7 weeks old and barely 2 pounds. Little pup on a big bed. He loved shopping in his carrier as a pup. The sweetest little puppy kisser. Buckle up for safety. Hanging out with his favorite mascot, Smokey. Go Vols! Love to sleep and get cuddles while riding in the car. Sleeping like a human next to my dad, make room on the pillow! Auggie celebrating his 1st birthday with a trail walk by the lake. Lucky to have two sweet lovin' boys.
